Church Membership
Church Membership is an important part of the Christian's focus and obligation to a church. God has established three institutions on earth through which He performs and accomplishes His will: the family, the government and the church. The church was established by Christ to accomplish God's redemptive purposes and to preach the eternal message of God's love for the world. Every Christian needs to learn how to become a member of a good church and serve to accomplish the harvest, consistent in the faith. God has a work to be done and a place to build up believers.
So, why should there be church members? Why should you consider the importance of belonging to God's family? By our commitment to membership we are saying to the world that we are God's people and that we have identified ourselves with Him. By the Spirit's baptism we are placed into His body. A church also places us under the ministry of the Word of God where we study the Bible together and grow spiritually and stronger in our faith. Joining a church expresses that we pledge ourselves to Christ and to His Word. This commitment will help keep us faithful, growing in maturity. Joining a church also causes us to grow through fellowship and this occurs when Christian experiences with God are exchanged in an atmosphere of love and respect. Fellowship means giving and taking. It involves letting others see us as we really are. We do become like those with whom we fellowship. Finally, joining a church fulfills the New Testament example, established on the day of Pentecost. "Then they that gladly received His Word were baptized; and the same day there were added unto them three thousand souls". The next verse revealed their continual commitment to Christ: "And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship." (Acts 2: 42).
If you are not yet a church member, we encourage you to share in this consideration. We will also have a common voice, where important motions are passed or rejected. Please make this an important matter of prayer and speak to one of our pastors or Peter Cooney should this be your desire.
